Fliss - Danny F. Called home by the Lord October 25, 2009, age 48. Beloved son of the late Henry J. Fliss and the late Raymond A. Matthews and the late Bertha (nee Beckman) Matthews; loving brother of Shelley L., Ronald, Donald, late Gary Matthews and the late Edward Fliss. The family will be present Wednesday 7-9 PM and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the (Lancaster/Depew Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME INC., 6050 Transit Rd, Depew, where funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 AM. Danny F. Fliss, community leader, fire department chief

Danny Fred Fliss, a longtime community leader, died unexpectedly Sunday in his Depew home. He was 48.
A Buffalo native, Mr. Fliss attended local public schools and graduated from Lancaster High School. He attended Erie Community College. For more than 25 years, he worked in the Erie County Probation Department, serving as a unit chairman and executive board member of Local 1095, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. He was a member of the county’s Six Sigma Committee. Mr. Fliss joined the Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department as a teenager, eventually achieving the rank of fire chief in 1990. He started the Junior Firefighter program for the Village of Lancaster and served as the village’s disaster coordinator, building inspector and code enforcement officer. He also served as president of the Lancaster Volunteer Ambulance Corp.
Surviving are a sister, Shelley L. Matthews, and two brothers, Ronald and Donald.
Services will be at 10:30 a. m. Friday in Amigone Funeral Home, 6050 Transit Road, Lancaster.
