Eulogy
Lloyd J. Myers 12/15/1914 - 12/31/99 Eulogy
Given by Julian Myers
Lloyd was a man who loved life, a family man, a man of few words.
His family and friends have come to know and love a man of many interests and talents. They may know him as the husband of Dolores for the last 50 years! A dedicated unselfish family man, or the caring father who has guided his four children through life with foresight, patience and wisdom - one who influenced them more times by his example than by his word.
They may also know him as "chief', the nickname the soldiers he commanded in WWll gave him out of respect and admiration. During 54 months serving his country, and being removed from his family, he committed himself to being the best soldier he could be. He understood the sacrifice and took on the challenge selflessly. That lasting impression has prompted regular communication with the remaining members of this group some 50 years later!
They may also know him as a proud member of Citizens Hose company. For over 40 years Lloyd has contributed to the voluntary fire fighting effort in Lancaster as secretary of
the organization. His commitment to serve the community
he lived and worked in showed us another side of Lloyd, the side of him that understood the value of giving back move than he was given.
There is another group of people that know him as "fishing buddy". A group of guys who spent many hours together and had a lot of laughs. Lloyd, as usual, was the main organizer - the detail man! If you forgot something, chances
are that Lloyd would have it in the Chemung box. Unfortunately for the rest of us, he more times than not seemed to have the details down on catching the biggest fish and going home with the money! He invariably
downplayed it as luck, but after awhile you began to wonder.
To a group of six small people, he was known as grandpa. To Jennette, Sarah, Robert, Vinny, James and Mark grandpa was the project coordinator, camping buddy, baby sitter, gift-giver, teacher, listener and friend. I know he treasured the time spent with them, it was obvious that he genuinely enjoyed their company. He considered himself a lucky man to have been blessed with such wonderful grandchildren and was very proud of them.
His family and friends will surely miss him. Lloyd has taught us much and enriched our lives. He may be physically removed from us now, but we can take solace in the fact that he will always remain a part of each of us, emotionally and spiritually for the rest of our lives. For this, we are thankful.

Freedom Fighters
by Dolores Myers
What a wonderful life he does live!
He Gave beyond what many men give!
Fifty-four months of his life
'Mid deprivation, horror and strife.
He served his country to keep men free
Joined in D-Day in Normandy on day twenty-three.
As husband and father he does excel
And gained the love of his grandchildren as well.
He continued his love for his fellow man without fear
In politics and forty years as a fireman volunteer.
Always love and safety was his goal
Life rewarded him, although he held grief, he has
happiness in his soul.
His earning of the Bronze Star Medal came with
help from above
His greatness in life an epic of love.
Glory and honor he never did seek
The cost of his comrades and his gratitude
for a life of freedom
Does keep him silent and meek.
